Producing different products involve different methods. When it comes to manufacturing of plastics, there are four specific categories in which the entire production process is divided into.
– The first step is to acquire a raw material, which is also called a monomer. Resins contained cellulose, furfural, oils and several other derivatives of starch. As a result of this, these were used as the most popular source of producing plastics in earlier times. In recent times, however, it has been found that the petrochemicals are mostly used as the raw materials as they have been found to be cheaper than the other ones.
– The next step is polymer synthesis. Polymerization is the very first step that leads to the formation of plastics. This process is divided into two categories. One is the additional method and the other is the condensation method for manufacturing of plastics.
– Thirdly, the polymer is then compounded into a material that could be used for fabrication purposes.
– Last but not the least is to create plastic mold. Molding the plastic is nothing but the process of providing a final shape to the plastic product. When it comes to the methods of molding the plastic, the oldest method is compression molding. In this process, the polymers were converted into useful materials. It uses force to provide a definite shape to the plastic. Another method of manufacturing of plastics by molding it is extrusion. The extruder, a device, here softens the plastic to give it a specific shape.
